Hawai'i is named after the ancient Hawaiian leged, Hawai'iloa, for settling the islands with eight navigators.
The Hawaiian Island chain consists of 19 islands and atolls. They make up the Hawaiian-Emperor seamount chain. Ni'ihau, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i, Kaho'olawe, Maui, Lanai, and Hawai'i Island make up the eight main islands. The largest island is locally called 'The Big Island' but it's official name is 'Hawai'i (pronounced Ha-vai-ee). One of the islands, Ni'ihau, is owned by the Robinson Family and requires an invitation should one wish to visit. This island employs many Hawaiians from Kaua'i and many speak Hawaiian on this island. Ninety percent of Kaua'i's economy is supported by tourism.
